Being a Flight Attendant is not all rainbows and butterflies, but sometimes we get awesome layovers and it makes it all worth it. I may not be the Queen of International Travel just yet, but I’ve gotten to explore the beauty of domestic flying and I wouldn’t change a thing. I composed a list of my top 10 favorite layovers I’ve had so far! And away we go!
10. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
What are the odds that the first time I get a beach-front layover it happens to be the coldest day in Florida? Despite the weather, I still walked along the beach until I reached this lighthouse. My goosebumps were in full effect and I couldn’t really feel my legs, but I sat on this old pier and pretended I was in “The Last Song” with Miley Cyrus.
9. Cleveland, Ohio
First of all, okay Cleveland I see you with this epic sign. And no, Cleveland isn’t just where Khloe Kardashian spends most of her time. It is the home of Rock and Roll!
Flight Attendants get a discount at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (woot woot). Regular admission is just $23. After all that Rock and Roll history we were parched, so we went down the pier to Nuevo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar.
8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
An art + Instagram lovers dream. Behold, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. For just a $10 entry free, you too can find yourself trapped in some mosaic dream. You may have to dodge some insta-models to get your own shots, but literally every inch of this place is instagram-worthy.
How dare I come to Philadelphia without having a Philly Cheesesteak! So this was my first stop! A popular choice with both tourists and locals is Geno’s Steaks. It did not disappoint. Not pictured is the Reading Terminal Market which is a must go! Similar to Grand Central Market in Los Angeles, this foodie’s paradise offers plenty of options for good eats and fun goodies.
7. Boston, Massachusetts
The most pleasant surprise for me was Boston. I felt like I stepped into an American history book the second I arrived.
While walking down the street we so happened to run into the house where Betsy Ross created the American Flag. How amazing is that.
I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t check yelp to find the nearest foodie hot spot. Mike’s Pastry has every flavored cannoli you could possibly think of. I got hazelnut, yum.
Oh, and I kind of met ARYA STARK on the streets of Boston, nbd.
6. Atlanta, Georgia
This wall give me life! I guess you could say I was “stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive” (haha). Right around the corner of Krogers lies this groovy photogenic mural.
Any Walking Dead fans out there? You’ll recognize this iconic downtown cityscape.
Here’s one thing I never knew existed till now, World of Coca-Cola ($17 admission). Who would of thought a video about Coca-Cola could be such a tear jerker! I also met the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, don’t be jealous.
Be-leaf in yourself.
Hug a tree, it’s good for ya!
We turned a Fresno layover in middle of nowhere, into a Yosemite adventure! We rented a car from the airport and drove 2 hours to Yosemite National Park. So worth it!
4. Orlando, Florida
Surprised Walt Disney World isn’t my #1? Okay I am too. You’ll understand when you see the rest of the lineup, BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t love seeing Orlando in my schedule. It’s obviously one of my favorite layovers and I get to fuel my Disney obsession even more! In Cassie fashion I went straight for the food. Enjoy all the foodie goodness.
3. Paris, France
Go ahead, have a tourist take your picture (covers up the Eiffel Tower).
Can all restaurants look like the ones in Paris? Please and thank you.
I’m a sucker for a croque madame.
Paris was my first working international trip, and on top of that I was the lead! It was intimidating, but I made it through and was rewarded with all this Parisian beauty. I made sure to grab a crepe as well because what is more French than eating a crepe in front of the Eiffel Tower?
2. Lihue, Hawaii
*Sees a row of rainbow chairs once*
How Hawaiian can these pictures get. Portuguese sausage? A red jeep? We love breakfast and Kalapaki Beach Hut is known for theirs.
Not only was this layover one of my favorites of all time, but my best friend/boyfriend got to join me. I love this job. I love this job. I love this job.

1. Cancun, Mexico
It’s a fiesta up in here!
Okay I may be biased because I am Mexican, but Cancun is my #1 top layover destination! Our hotel was right on the beach and look at that water. Not much can top this. I got my whole years worth of tan in my one day that I was there. The real reason it is #1 though, is because I got fajitas, chips and salsa, and a Pina Colada for $10! Yup you heard me. Head over to Tacun for that sweet deal. It doesn’t have 4.5 stars on Yelp for nothing. I can’t wait for my top layover destinations to grow and grow. Every layover I find myself at has a special place in my heart. Every corner of this world has something special to offer. Big and small.
I am so lucky to have a job that allows me to explore new places everyday. I will never take this for granted.
